  • when we got to washington dc i knew that we had to find this restaurant. it is mentioned in the american president which is one my favorites
  • my mom's friend carolyn told her that we needed to find this fabric store while in dc... we did not intend to find it, but happened across it in our travels around the city.
  • blair house is located right across the street from the white house and is the home to visiting dignitaries and other government guests. during the truman administration it was even the home to the president.
  • the north entrance to the white house. we were able to walk pennsylvia avenue since it was closed to traffic. what i was not expecting was the pickup game of street hockey going on in front of the white house. very odd. oh and we saw some squirrels out here too.
  • the south entrance to the white house. you cannot get very close to this side of the house since it is at the back end of a park.
  • view of the washington monument from the white house. interesting factoid... if something starts construction while the person is alive it is a monument and when it is started after they are gone it is a memorial.
  • the national christmas tree. even though the white house and the capital have lots of trees at christmas, this is the official tree.
  • an aluminum violin that i decided to photograph for my friend billy, who is the master of the fiddle.
  • mr. rogers (may he rest in peace) donated a sweater from his closet to the smithsonian.
  • a replica of the first nuclear bomb ever built. it was called fat man.
  • my mom and becky kept lagging behind in the computer section of the smithsonian. i kept trying to get them to come along... but they insisted on looking at every display. this was the eniac. the world first computer.
  • an original apple computer. it all began with a wooden box.
  • we bumped into julia child while we were wondering around the museum.
  • what the h is this?
  • this was a neat exhibit of the restoration of the original betsy ross flag. typical of most thing... it could not just be a display. it also had to be a commercial.
  • i got totally busted for taking this picture... my mom was teaching a class on sewing at the junior college while we were on this trip, so she was interested in the technique.
  • later on becky bumped into nancy reagan.
  • huge gems... aquamarine to be exact. my birthstone.
  • a windy walk on the national mall.
  • the west front of the capital. interesting factoid... there is no "front" or "back" of the building.
